JOB ADVERT – DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE)

ILU invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Finance. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic leadership and oversight for the human, administrative, financial, technological and other resource management functions of the University, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and sustainability in alignment with the mission and vision of International Leadership University (ILU), and will be based at the ILU campuses in Kilimani or Kitengela.

Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration shall:

  1. Oversee the general administration, finance, human, technological, facilities and other compliance matters of the University. This may include legal matters, as guided by the Vice Chancellor.
  2. Provide effective human financial, administrative, technological, and support services to the university. In this role, it is expected that you will guide the process of organizational culture change for optimal service provision to all the stakeholders of the university.
  3. Coordinate the preparation, execution, monitoring, and review of the University budget, working with the Finance Department and the FAHR Council Committee.
  4. Put in place and monitor the cost control measures governing the prudent stewardship of university resources,
    working with the University Administrator and other staff of the University.
  5. Be responsible for the management of the human resources of the University.
  6. Coordinate policies and their implementation regarding staff and faculty recruitment, development, care, welfare, and eventual exit, working with the Human Resources Lead and the Management Board.
  7. Oversee the development and implementation of sound procurement policies for the university.
  8. Coordinate the planning, development, and care for university facilities to support teaching, research, and resource generation. In this role, the division is expected to develop appropriate mechanisms for storing and
    authorized retrieval of relevant university data, working with the University Librarian and other staff, as guided by the Vice Chancellor.
  9. Undertake investment initiatives for the University to support its general operations, teaching, and research.
  10. Lead Committees of the Management Board or the Senate, as guided by the University Statutes.
  11.  Serve as the Secretary of the Management Board of the University.
  12. Serve as a member of the Senate of the University.
  13. Teach and supervise students in their research, when possible, to qualify for ranking and promotion.
  14. Promote a Christian and corporate culture upholding ILU Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  15. Perform such other duties as may be delegated by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time.

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:

● Ph.D. or Doctorate degree from a recognized university.
● A Master’s degree relevant to Finance and Administration, or other relevant trainings are preferable.
● Three (3) years of teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer or above will be an added advantage.
● At least five (5) years of experience at a senior management level in a vibrant medium-sized or larger institution or organization.
● Demonstrated training and competence in finance and administration.
● Excellent and proven organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
● Demonstrated competence in leadership in an academic/research environment.
● Demonstrated ability and leadership skills to effectively coordinate the finance and administration functions in a university environment.
● Membership of a relevant professional body.
